World Press Photo Multimedia Contest 2012

World Press Photo is now accepting entries for the 2012 contest for the best multimedia storytelling in visual journalism. The contest is open for photographers, publications and multimedia producers to enter their work to be judged by an international, nine-member jury of experts.
Participants who have already registered for the Photo Contest also need to register separately if they wish to enter work in the Multimedia Contest. The World Press Photo multimedia contest accepts online or offline linear productions with a journalistic storyline. Each multimedia entry must include professional still photography in combination with (but not limited to) audio and visual elements such as video, animation, graphics, illustrations, sound and text. Productions entered into the contest may not be longer than 20 minutes. The productions must be completed or first published in 2011. The work will be judged on their impact as well as their production and content.
There will be three productions awarded at the 2012 Multimedia Contest. Each winning team will be recognized with a Golden Eye Award and a certificate. In addition, the team awarded the first prize will receive a cash prize of €5,000. A representative of each of the winning production teams will be invited to Amsterdam to attend the 2012 Awards Days weekend on 20 and 21 April and will receive the awards at the Awards Ceremony on Saturday 21 April.

Folio Thinking - Projects Starting in 2012

Initiator: Hellenic Centre for Photography
The Fοlio Thinking Project is a personalized one-on-one consultation program for photographers and artists to receive advice, conceptual support and positive direction for ongoing and upcoming artistic project development.
The program is an initiative of the Hellenic Centre for Photography with the participation of master-guests in the fields of photography, art, and media to instruct the selected photographers on photographic skills, but also on specific topics like:
• Analysis and assessment on your own existing photographic work
• Conceptual thinking development
• Progress monitoring
• Developing a digital portfolio
• Making a photobook
• Preparing for exhibition
• Showcasing online
The Folio Thinking Project operates on a rolling admissions basis, meaning that prospective participants can apply for our program throughout the year, however we do advise to apply early in the year. We aim to return a decision within 4-6 weeks of receiving your application.

Light Work - Artist-in-Residence Program
Every year Light Work invites between twelve and fifteen artists to come to Syracuse to devote one month to creative projects. Over 350 artists have participated in Light Work's Artist-in-Residence Program, and many of them have gone on to achieve international acclaim.
The residency includes a $4,000 stipend, a furnished artist apartment, 24-hour access to our state-of-the-art facilities, and generous staff support. Work by each Artist-in-Residence is published in a special edition of Contact Sheet: The Light Work Annual along with an essay commissioned by Light Work. Work by former Artists-in-Residence is also part of the Light Work Collection.
Applications to the AIR program are accepted throughout the year.

Noorderlicht Photofestival 2012

Photofestival, in which diverse photographic genres and series are welded into a thematic narrative, like chapters in a book. It may be about religion, conflict or globalisation, about wonder or a sense of space.
The main topic of the Noorderlicht International Photofestival 2012 will be landscape as the illusion of nature. Starting today, photographers can submit their work. Suggestions by curators are also welcome. The deadline is March 16. The 2012 Noorderlicht Photofestival will take place on September 2 to October 7, 2012

IPA 2012 - International Photography Awards

The International Photography Awards conducts an annual competition for professional, non- professional, and student photographers on a global scale, creating one of the most ambitious and comprehensive competitions in the photography world today.
There are $20,000 in total cash prizes, a chance to be recognized as the International Photographer of the Year, Discovery of the Year or the Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year.

Vienna International Photo Awards 2012

The annual Vienna International Photographic Awards « VIPA » for documentary photography will be organized by KUNSTNETZWERK (modern contemporary art gallery and network) and founder Raed Bawayah (photographer), in collaboration with «Eyes-On» the European Month of Photography Vienna.
Besides the total value of 7.000 EUR in money prizes the short-listed winners will be able to take part in a group exhibition in November 2012 in Vienna (during the European Month of Photography) as well as in the publication of VIPA’s official catalogue. The awards will be divided into three sections: 1st prize (4.000 EUR), 2nd prize (2.000 EUR) and 3rd prize (1.000 EUR). The awards of the prices, the presentation of the official catalogue as well the opening of the group exhibition will be held on the 15th November 2012 in Vienna. Participants will choose the theme of their photo series submission.
The competition will be judged by a board of highly esteemed photo editors, curators, art directors and other luminaries from the international photography community.
